Fish and Chips

This breaded fish and homemade chips tastes great, and much healthier than the takeaway!

Equipment

  • Small saucepan
  • 2 baking trays
  • Pastry brush
  • Chopping board
  • Sharp knife
  • Lemon squeezer
  • Food processor
  • Medium mixing bowl
  • Fish slice

Ingredients

  • 1 lemon
  • 25g margarine
  • 75g wholemeal bread
  • Small bunch parsley
  • 1.6kg potatoes
  • 2 tbsp olive oil
  • Ground black pepper 
  • fillets white fish e.g. haddock, cod, pollock

Simple steps

  1. Preheat the oven to 180C / 160C fan / Gas Mark 4
  2. Peel and slice the potatoes into chip shapes
  3. Arrange onto a baking tray and drizzle with the olive oil
  4. Put the chips into the oven for 45-50 minutes, turning occasionally
  5. Melt the margarine in the saucepan and remove from heat
  6. Squeeze the juice from half the lemon into the saucepan
  7. Add the bread and parsley into the food processor and blitz until breadcrumb texture
  8. Put the breadcrumbs into the mixing bowl and add the margarine mixture
  9. Coat the fish pieces in the breadcrumbs and add to the baking tray
  10. Bake the fish for around 20 minutes
